| Welcome to Mallard Bay Resorts Activities Information Big Bear Lake is about 2 ½ hours away from Los Angeles or San Diego in the San Bernardino National Forest at approximately 7,000 feet elevation. We have over 300 days a year of sunshine and the 7th sunniest spot on earth! The average temperature in the summer is about 75 – 83 degrees in the afternoon and 60 – 65 in the evenings. Because of our elevation, we are smog free with star filled evenings and blue skis in the daytime. Big Bear Lake is a very safe mountain community for the family with many things to do throughout the day depending on your mood. Big Bear Lake has over 22 miles of shoreline, hiking trails around the lake and in the mountains with great trout fishing if you and your family are so inclined! You will the “Concerts in the Mountains” series in the summer, movies on the lake and at the National Forest ranger station, free guided hikes, canoeing, kayaking, antique car show (2 big ones each year), one of the Largest Fireworks Displays in Southern California over Big Bear Lake, relaxing with a lake cruise, restaurants, just plenty of good activities. |

| Looking for a little more adventure Take A Hike You may access the trail by parking at the Discovery Center to take the extension paved path that leads you to the trailhead. On the Cougar Crest Trail you will walk through a wide variety of natural environments. The first mile is a gentle uphill climb, but after a mile or so you will realize you are gaining altitude. The Cougar Crest Trail ends at the juncture of the world famous 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail. Bring plenty of water for your hike and comfortable shoes for the hike.
